Rap beef is fine. Competition in hip-hop is even better. Besides, isn’t that a huge part of hip-hop? Yes, as long as it’s kept in the music. I wonder though, are the day’s of KRS-One, Nas, 50 Cent, Jay-Z rap beef tracks over? Is social media to blame?
There was a time in hip-hop when you couldn’t hop on the internet and talk sh*t about who you had an issue with or who you felt you were better than. You had to prove it and DO it in music. Writing a diss track was the ultimate disrespect because let’s remember that music lives forever once it’s released. Tweets can be deleted.
With the recent back and forth between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj with subliminal tweets to each other, I have to say, it’s just DUMB. What would be dope and far more hip-hop to do? Hop in the studio, write a diss track, drop it and let the world go crazy! THAT is a good healthy rap beef. Although this isn’t a complete lost art, I do miss the days of waiting to hear what an artists response would be, the back and forth diss tracks. Mind you, I was not even 20 years old when the 50 Cent and Ja Rule beef was happening and THAT was a time!
