You may be sleeping under a rock or too young to know who Left Eye was, but even 15 years after her death she is still loved, still celebrated and still living through her music. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes passed away in a tragic car accident while visiting Honduras. She was sonly 30 years old.
While in Honduras, Left Eye was working on a documentary about her personal and spiritual journey. She was said to be on her way to visit The Usha Herbal Resource Institute located in an herbal healing village. The news of her death hit MTV News and traveled fast. The world was devastated. I even remember exactly the moment I heard the news being reported by Kurt Loder and it was incredibly sad. One third of TLC was now gone.
TLC was a huge part of my musical upbringing- as well as most of us 80s and 90s babies. We knew all the words to Crazy Sexy Cool and made it a point to learn all of Left Eye’s raps in their songs.
