New Orleans Bounce legend Lil Elt is celebrating this week with the premiere of his official video for “Get The Gat”, a song that blew up earlier this year, nearly three decades after its initial release. Filmed by Jade DelValle aka Pearl Energyy of DelValle Studios, the high-energy visual is reminiscent of a time when we were all outside, without a care in the world!
“Get The Gat” features cameos from dozens of artists, athletes and influencers including Snoop Dogg, Odell Beckham Jr., Marshmello, the LSU Football team, and #GetTheGatChallenge originator Subtweet Shawn, all who pushed the song and challenge to over 100 million views on Instagram and TikTok. Lil Elt sold 30k singles out of the trunk in the 90s, but didn’t officially release the song through his own digital distribution until February 2020 to the tune of nearly 10 million organic streams in less than two months.
Jay-Z and Jay Electronica pay homage and interpolate “Get The Gat” on “Flux Capacitor” featured on the new album A Written Testimony. Even Lil Wayne gave the song a huge shoutout on Drink Champs, and as Elt told HHDX for the video premiere this week: “If Wayne’s saying something about it, ‘Get The Gat’ it’s major.”
