TELL US ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE WEARING TODAY:

Akil: Today I’m wearing some comfort things…my favorite jacket by fernet branca…my favorite thing of all time, Levis denim…and one of my old classic fuzzy vintage tees.

HOW HAS HIP HOP CULTURE INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE:

Akil: I don’t know if it so much has influenced me…it is what I am. That’s what I grew up listening to, the environment and culture I grew up in. So, it’s always been about casual attire, street attire…that’s cool, crisp…looks good, looks fly.

NAME YOUR TOP 3 FAVORITE HIP HOP ARTISTS:

Akil: I would go…Asop Rock, Biggie Smalls, Eric B. Rakim.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WOULD NEVER BE CAUGHT WEARING:

Akil: Chuck Taylors.

TELL US SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNERS:

Akil: Favorite designers? I always generally look for things that just speak to me no matter who makes it, as long as it is comfortable and looks good. But brands I always stick by are New Era, Adidas, Levis…yeah that’s my big three otherwise everything else comes and goes.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF FASHION ADVICE YOU WANT TO GIVE OUR READERS?

Akil: Do you. Don’t be chasing fashion and fads. I feel like I wear what I wear…they are things that define me. I have always worn the same hat, same jackets I’ve worn all the time…it’s not about representing fashion designers, it’s about designers who make pieces that represent you.
